An alleged Shepparton thief who is a “menace” that continues to reoffend says he would “rather die” than spend any more nights in the cells.

Curtis Healey, 23, who prefers to be called ‘Gray Nightshade’ has been in and out of police cells since early December over theft and proceeds of crime charges.

Mr Healey has allegedly been committing thefts at retail outlets such as Target and Harris Scarfe, regularly over the past month.

In his most recent alleged theft, Mr Healey allegedly stole a Star Wars novel and Pokemon set, while also being in possession of an Optus phone that was allegedly the proceeds of crime.

Mr Healey’s lawyer, Luke Slater, noted to Magistrate Victoria Campbell that Mr Healey’s matter had a “colourful history”, before explaining the events of the last month.

Mr Slater noted his client had been in and out of police cells since early December, with his alleged reoffending landing him back in court numerous times.

Mr Healey has been brought before a total of four magistrates in the past month – Magistrate Anne Goldsbrough, Magistrate Peter Mithen, Magistrate Fran Medina and now Magistrate Campbell.

Ms Campbell revoked bail.

“He’s a menace … He’s just getting out and reoffending,” she said.

“You are leaving court and offending straight away.”

She ordered he be placed under special supervision and be seen by a nurse after he threatened to “smash (his) head against a wall”.

Ms Campbell said all the matters should be heard at once and adjourned the case for Monday January 8.
