A plumber who was enjoying his girlfriend’s 18th birthday party had the night ruined when a drunken partygoer hopped in his car and drove it through a fence in what was a brutal blow for the young tradesman.

Three weeks ago at Connor Norton’s girlfriend’s place in Katandra West, 50 people celebrating her 18th birthday party.

A man at the party then decided to get in Mr Norton’s car and take it for a short lived joy ride.

The man took the car, drove it through the gate before it was plunged into the paddock fence along the driveway.

The Holden Commodore’s front axle was snapped and pushed back.

Three police cars and an ambulance arrived at the scene.

Mr Norton is now faced with the difficult task of being a plumber without a vehicle.

Jakara Doyle, Mr Norton’s aunty, told the Herald Sun it was a “senseless” act.

“His car, a vital tool for his daily life and livelihood, was stolen and destroyed,” she said.

“This unexpected loss has left him without reliable transportation and facing significant financial hardship.”

Ms Doyle said the man was “being a bit of a ratbag” and behaving erratically.

She said he’d been offered to give him a lift home, but before that could happen he had hopped in Mr Norton’s ute.

Mr Norton had also just received his licence and had spent months getting his car on the road, after recently being given it by his mum and grandma.

Ms Doyle said Mr Norton was a “great young kid” who wasn’t angry or resentful his beloved car was destroyed.

“Connor is a bright and ambitious young person who deserves our support,” she said.

Mr Norton and the man behind it were known to each other but were not friends.

No charges have yet been laid.

A GoFundMe has been set up by Ms Doyle to help get Mr Norton back on the road.
