A Berrigan father who rammed two police cars claims he has “limited memory” of his drug-fuelled rage six months on from the incident, a court has heard.

Brady Cox, 32, was sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars after pleading guilty to charges including recklessly exposing an emergency worker to risk by driving, possessing methamphetamine and theft of a motor vehicle in the Melbourne County Court.

The court heard Cox rammed two police vehicles after they found him sleeping in a stolen Ford sedan at a Cobram service station in the early hours of May 28 this year.

When authorities found him they parked their vehicle in front of Cox and placed deflating devices under the tyres before waiting for support to arrive.

Police yelled at Cox telling him not to move before he started the car and drove forward into the parked police vehicle parked in front of the Ford.

He then reversed into another police car where an officer was seated before Cox accelerated away down the Murray Valley Hwy.

Both cars sustained minor damage.

Authorities chased Cox and soon found him stopped on a gravel shoulder with flat tyres.

After police came to a stop, Cox put his car into reverse and rammed into the police car again.

A short time later, the stolen Ford was found abandoned in Yarroweyah with one gram of methamphetamine located in the vehicle.

Cox was arrested at the home of a known associate in Numurkah later that morning after stealing a Mazda utility from a Yarroweyah property.

The car used in the ramming was stolen on May 20 by Cox when he was a passenger in the vehicle when it was pulled over by officers on the Murray Valley Hwy at Burramine.

As the driver got out of the car and spoke to officers, Cox moved into the driver’s seat and drove towards Yarrawonga.

Cox’s defence counsel Liliana Dubroja said her client has “limited memory” of the incident due to his high drug use at the time of the offending.

Judge Sarah Dawes slammed Cox for the incident describing his offending as "compulsive".

"This type of violence is unacceptable," she said.

"Your driving was inherently dangerous."

Cox had served 182 days pre-sentence detention at the time of sentencing.

He must serve a minimum of one year and 10 months before becoming eligible for parole.
