Black Rhino’s Victoria Hotel in Shepparton accused of serving alcohol to under-18s: Court

A Shepparton pub allegedly served alcohol to minors as well as allowing them into gaming areas.

The Victoria Hotel in Shepparton has been accused of breaking liquor licencing laws with underage service of alcohol.

Shepparton’s “favourite local” has been charged with breaching liquor licencing and responsible gambling laws.

The Victoria Hotel, operated by Black Rhino Group which runs a number of pubs across Victoria, Queensland and South Australia, faced the Shepparton Magistrate’s Court on Friday on six charges for allegedly breaching liquor licencing and gaming laws at the venue last year.

The pub is accused of serving alcohol to someone under 18 on December 21.

On the same date, it’s accused of allowing a minor to enter the pokies area.

Black Rhino Group which owns the Victoria Hotel in Shepparton is accused of serving alcohol to a minor and allowing minors into a gaming machine area.

On a separate occasion on April 12, the pub is accused of allowing two people under 18 into the venue who did not live there or intend to eat a meal and of allowing a minor to enter a gaming machine area.

If a minor enters a gaming machine area of an approved venue the venue operator can receive a penalty of up to 120 units, which is equal to more than $23,700.

The maximum penalty for allowing a young person in a licensed place or serving alcohol to a person under 18 is 60 penalty units, which is equal to more than $11,800.

Black Rhino Group will return to court on March 26 for a contest mention and a further mention.

The Victoria Hotel, which includes Flanagan’s Irish Bar, is on Wyndham St in Shepparton and is open until 4am.
