Buyers can grab a slice of history and ‘go under the dome’ with Footscray’s iconic Greens Building on the market.
The building, located at 337-351 Barkly St, is well-known for the distinctive green dome making it “locally, historically, architecturally and socially significant.”
Rosin Smyth and Partners real estate agent Martin Smyth said the heritage-listed building was a versatile space.
“The building is a lot quirkier on the inside than it is on the outside … this is a real eccentric thing,” he said.
There’s been interest from property developers with many intrigued by the transforming the space from a former dance hall
“I had some people through recently wanting to turn it into a brewery and do a micro-pub brewery kind of thing,” Mr Smyth said.
“It’s got some interesting elements to it, with the old timber flooring and upstairs is a massive triangular open plan room that used to be a dance hall.
“Certain properties have got a certain value in keeping them I think … it’s definitely got potential to potentially restore and renovate and maybe get multiple tenants in there.”
Margaret Cumming owned Margaret’s Bazaar which is on the street level of the building and operated as a second-hand furniture shop.
Her son Daniel went on to represent Australia at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
Daughter Catherine is an Independent member of state parliament and a former Maribyrnong Council mayor.
The building is set to go to auction on November 15 with a “massive price” adjustment expected.
