The National party were an unsurprising favourite among early voters at a pre-polling both in Mildura, an exclusive survey has revealed.
In an exit poll of 100 voters at the Mildura Number 3 Oval, 70 voters told The Mildura News they backed the Nationals, while 11 supported Labor.
Four people supported the Greens while six chose an independent candidate.
Six others voted for the United Australia Party and three chose One Nation.
Despite the cold mornings and miserable weather, locals braved the conditions to make their vote count early.
Since the creation of the Mallee electorate in 1949 it has been a National seat, making it one of the safest seats in federal parliament.
Locals were loud in their support of the incumbent Anne Webster.
One man who has lived in the country for 11 years but who only recently became a citizen said he was voting for Dr Webster in his first Australian election.
“I am so excited to be a part of it. I think that Anne would do the best job,” he said.
However, the overwhelming support for Dr Webster didn’t discourage others from casting their vote where they wanted to.
Many locals were convinced the country “needed fixing”.
“Something has to change around here, that’s why I am voting for an independent,” one voter said.
