Fears are growing of a potential new coronavirus outbreak at a kinder in Melbourne’s north after a Covid-infected visitor spent time at the centre.

Ivanhoe’s Fairy Hills Kindergarten has shut temporarily and was added to the list of Tier 1 exposure sites at 11pm on May 30.

The visitor spent time at the centre on Thyer Rd between 9.15am and 11am on May 25.
Operators Kids First were rushing to contact staff and parents of kindergarten pupils to advise them of the closure and to follow DHHS guidelines.

Anyone who visited the site at the time of the positive case is recommended to get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days.

Kids First spokeswoman Clare Lombardi said the news was of “deep concern” and the centre would be deep cleaned and undergo a risk assessment.

Ms Lombardi said the positive case did not belong to a parent or a regular visitor to the centre.

“We are doing what we can to reassure our staff and our community and are following the Department of Health guidelines,” she said.
“We’ve been planning for this scenario and it has allowed us to spring into action doing everything we can do within our control.”
