EYNESBURY is embracing a fresh is best approach by starting up its own weekly farmers’ market, showcasing local produce.

Eynesbury Homestead came up with the idea as a way of turning the township into a weekend destination.

Felicity Ashman from Urban Markets, who is in charge of getting the market up and running, said she wanted to include the community as much as possible.

She said the homestead wanted to create a Sunday farmers’ market that not only supported farmers and producers in Melbourne’s west, but the community as well.

“There will be opportunities for volunteers to help and for community groups to fundraise and share their tips and techniques,’’ Ms Ashman said.

She said she would also like to include live music, performances and a kids club.

“We also want to start a market kitchen where customers can see great chefs turning the market produce into mouth-watering dishes.”

But Ms Ashman said more suppliers were needed, especially vegetable growers and artisan bread makers.

“We have a great list of suppliers including free range eggs, beef and pork, along with a wide range of potatoes, traditional Scottish foods, cakes, jams, vegetarian and gluten free products, cheese, healthy dog treats, olive oils and much more.

“We are also looking for local backyard gardeners, growers and small home based producers who would love to share their produce at the market.”

The first market will be held on Sunday, October 18 at the Eynesbury Homestead, 487 Eynesbury Rd.
