Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man and transformer Bumblebee are among the superheroes prowling the streets of Melbourne during lockdown.
The team at XLENT Events have been dressing up as popular film and superhero characters, with customers able to hire them to deliver presents and baked goods for birthdays or special occasions.
Creative director Aaron Smith said with COVID-19 restrictions, the entertainment company worked with government guidelines, pivoted and decided to stay open and start offering the service to uplift the community.
“It’s a different service than what we had before with an affordable price point so we have seen a substantial increase in demand,” he said.
Mr Smith said every time the company did a delivery, people in the street heard the music and came outside to see the characters and a street full of bubbles.
“It totally transforms people’s outlook,” he said.
“People are suffering bad depression, alone. It makes someone’s whole year. People say it’s the best thing to happen to them all year, the best thing they have ever done for a loved one.
“It’s overwhelming, the positive response we have got and we are honoured, humbled and grateful to be able to help people like this.”
Skye mum Tara Axton organised a visit from Bumblebee for her son Hunter’s fourth birthday.
She said Hunter was initially disappointed he would not be able to have his friends over for a birthday party due to COVID restrictions.
“We thought ‘How are we going to make it special for him’ so we organised for Bumblebee to come for an iso visit,” she said.
Ms Axton said Hunter was beside himself with excitement when Bumblebee arrived.
“It was the most amazing birthday he’s ever had, he has not stopped talking about it,” she said.
