Two children were among four people rushed to hospital during a shocking few hours on Whitehorse roads.

Police say they can’t understand why Sunday, October 13 was such a bad day for crashes, with good weather throughout the day, but four separate accidents left people needing to be hospitalised.

Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant Paul Egan said human error lead to all the crashes, which also left a KFC restaurant and a dental clinic as casualties.

A five-year-old Glen Waverley girl was rushed to the Royal Children’s Hospital by ambulance after her father’s Volkswagen collided with a Peugeot in Blackburn North about 2.27pm.

Sgt Egan said the 43-year-old Glen Waverley man was turning right from the Eastern Freeway off-ramp onto Middleborough Rd when the car hit the Peugeot, being driven south along the road by a 46-year-old Mount Waverley man.

Neither driver was injured, but the five-year-old was left with minor head injuries.

Sgt Egan said the drivers had conflicting stories about who had a green light and called for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

Sgt Egan said fortunately the driver had seen the child on the side of the road and slowed down, but was unable to fully brake in time after he unexpectedly ran across the road.
