Blackburn Rd: VicRoads reseals road surface around parked car
Motorists were left baffled after workers resurfacing Blackburn Rd simply tarred around an abandoned car instead of getting it removed. It comes after the authority removed a confusing traffic island in Watsonia that caused several near-collisions.

A main road in Blackburn has just been resealed in new, smooth bitumen — except for one small patch.
VicRoads has carried out the roadworks on Blackburn Rd around a parked Toyota sedan, leaving a glaring hole in the road surface.
The incident comes just weeks after VicRoads removed a painted road island designed to ease congestion on the Greensborough Highway in Watsonia, just two months after it was installed.
A Department of Transport spokesman, who refused to be named, said the unusual sight was the result of the department being unable to have the car moved before the road was redone.
People living along Blackburn Rd, between Burwood Highway and Eley Rd, were told a week prior to the works to make sure their cars were not parked on the road.
“Our contractor provided seven days advance notice of the resurfacing works to all properties along Blackburn Rd,” he said.

Sticklers using and living on Blackburn Rd can rest assured — order is set to be restored.
“While we were unable to contact the owner of the vehicle before the works took place, we have contacted the council to arrange for the removal of the vehicle and will ensure the remaining section of Blackburn Road is resurfaced as soon as possible,” the spokesman said.
However, the council said it had not been notified and would be sending offices to inspect the abandoned car.
The council said the car was removed yesterday afternoon.
