WESTPAC will no longer remove its ATM from Blackburn Station Village after Whitehorse Leader reported Blackburn businesses’ concerns about losing it.
The shopping strip’s last ATM without withdrawal fees was planned to be removed from the wall at 128 South Pde when the Westpac branch vacated the premises on Friday, September 7.
But the bank said it had decided to keep the ATM active after hearing the community reaction from the article.

“We have taken on board the feedback from the local community in Blackburn about requiring the services of our ATM, and have made the decision to retain it,” Westpac regional general manager Darryl Ellis said.
Blackburn Cellarbrations’ worker Joseph Vitile, who was very concerned about the ATM being removed and its impact on customers, said the change of plans was fantastic news.
Mr Vitile said he had spoken with other South Pde traders about the news and they were all relieved an ATM would remain on the street.
“We’re very happy,” he said.

The Commonwealth Bank and ANZ Bank ATMs formerly out the front of Cellarbrations have been removed, which caused “a huge uproar” with customers, according to Mr Vitile.
There are two independent ATMs in the area, one inside IGA on South Pde, and one inside Blackburn Hotel, but both charge a $2.80 fee for use.
