THE father of two sons who love to wind him up with practical jokes is a minor celebrity after videos of the family’s antics went viral.
The #AngryDad Facebook page has more than 220,000 likes and counting after brothers Mitchell and Dylan Orval posted the videos.
Mitchell, 18, and Dylan, 21, set up their dad in the family home, at the Ferntree Gully Rd KFC outlet and Monash Wave pool — all in the Glen Waverley area.
Their father, Mark Orval, was recently recognised by one #AngryDad fan while he was sipping coffee at Knox City.
The dad is always the victim in the popular videos that involve him being pushed into the family pool, getting sprung eating fast-food instead of sushi, having his car stolen, being fed a meal laced with hot chillies and having bean bag stuffing dumped over him at Christmas.
The former Caulfield Grammar students started the Facebook page in August when they realised the first video they posted online had a struck a chord. Mitchell said the videos were not staged and reflected a family tradition of pranking.
“I think they’re so popular because everyone can relate to them. I think our dad’s reaction is what every dad wants to react like when their kids play up,” Mitchell said.
The pair have copped come criticism online for failing to show their dad enough respect but Mitchell said he and his brother knew where to draw the line.
“We know what we’re doing, we know our boundaries, we know it doesn’t change the pretty good relationship we’ve got with him, that’s the reason why we can do it,” he said.
Mark is reluctant to fuel the fire by agreeing to media interviews, according to Mitchell, who thinks it is only a matter of time before an #AngryDadRevenge video is posted.
“Thank God it hasn’t happened yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens shortly.”
The pair are selling #AngryDad T-shirts, hats and bumper stickers via their and have promised $2 from every sale to Alzheimers Australia to help with research. Their grandfather has the disease. Visit the Facebook page for more information.
AFL fans may remember Mark Orval as a forward who played a handful of games for Collingwood in the 1980s. He works in a management role at a media company.
