Box Hill High School is installing perspex screens to protect staff and parents, while PE classes will return but with reduced student numbers.
With VCE classes starting back on May 26, sport will not initially be a concern given senior students only take PE as an elective.
Principal Losh Pillay said the school was confident in managing the risk posed by sport for VCE students.
“If (VCE) PE class calls for a (practical assessment) they’ll have access to our gym, which is a double (in size), or we will use outdoor spaces, so running those classes with senior students won’t be an issue,” she said.

But for years 7 to 10 the way sports classes are held will have to change.
“If they’re doing, say, basketball, they will generally have classes grouped together to create more competition. For now it will have to be individual classes only,” Ms Pillay said.
Elsewhere in the school, perspex screens have been ordered for the office area, with emergency signage to be displayed in the school’s foyer.
Parents wanting access to the administration area will be required to form a queue observing 1.5m distancing from others.
