Plans to install lighting will make Templestowe Park Primary School’s synthetic sports area usable all year round for community groups and school events.
The school was named the winner of Manningham Leader’s $1000 Leader Local Grant after receiving 1115 votes online, with the grant to be put towards the lighting project.
A school council meeting next Tuesday is expected to finalise technical detail after quotes were sought recently.
School council member Doug Rutter said the work would be a “win/win for everyone”.
“We have a couple of groups who do adult exercise classes and this will enable them to use a broader area,” he said.
“It also means we can have school events all year round, we’re not just restricted to the daylight savings period.”
The school’s synthetic grass area was built last year, with the project to also include lighting for nearby paths.
They are also investigating energy efficient and renewable energy design options.
