Templestowe Cricket Club player and coach Fiona Huber’s dedication revealed
Becoming the first woman to play senior mens cricket in the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association was only the start to Fiona Huber’s dedication to her sporting community. Find out why the coach has been nominated for services to sport.

How long has the nominee been serving at your club?
— 23 years.
How does the nominee provide outstanding service to your club?
Fiona started at Templestowe Cricket Club in 1996 and was the first female to play senior mens cricket in the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association.
She starting coaching juniors (U14 and U16) in 1998-1999 while still training and playing senior cricket.
In 2008-2009 she became treasurer and has held administrative roles since.
She coaches the Templestowe Cricket Club Fast 9s team, volunteers with Woolworths Blast (MILO) and is a mentor and role model for girls currently coming into the club.
Dedication to sport:
When Fiona arrived at Templestowe Cricket Club in 1996 she was determined to play mens cricket but she first had to get special permission to play being the first female ever to do it. Through sheer determination and adversity she proved her worth but every now and again she has to battle ego’s while on the field.
She is admirable in her approach and has been part of two premiership teams in 2007 and 2019.
What makes the nominee so special?
Fiona has played since 1996 and only took time out to have children.
She coaches the Fast 9s cricket on a Friday and turns with her sons on Sunday.
She plays senior cricket on Saturdays and veterans every second Sunday.
She volunteers for WW Blast (MILO) on Friday, she captains the seniors in the one-day senior comp, is a mentor and coach for girls and she is a sponsor.
Describe the nominee’s passion for the sport:
Fiona also coaches St Kevin’s school cricket team, she runs indoor cricket training in winter for juniors, she coaches St Kevin’s basketball team and she coaches the Warrandyte Redbacks basketball team.
She is also the Templestowe Football Clubs U9s team manager.

Do you have anything else you’d like to add?
Fiona is currently in charge of sponsorship at Templestowe Cricket Club and continues to be focused on that through the off-season — She never stops.
Fiona runs her photography business and runs her own mortgage broking business through Buyers Choice, all while doing the above.
She is tireless and extremely dedicated to the community, junior development and the cricket club.
Fiona is also the current Manningham Sportsperson of the Year.
