Two teenagers have been rushed to hospital after they were hit by a car while riding a dirt bike about 50km east of Melbourne.
It’s understood the pair had been riding in Rutter Park Memorial Reserve at about 7pm on Monday, before making their way to the South Gippsland Highway in Tooradin.
Police believe the rider, a 16-year-old boy, had been riding along the shoulder of the highway before moving into the left lane where the bike was struck by a car.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the rider was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while his passenger, an 18-year-old woman, received critical injuries.
“The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and she is assisting police with inquiries,” she said.
“Anyone who has dashcam footage or any other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”
According to an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman, both teenagers were taken to hospital, where the woman remains in a critical condition.
The teenage girl reportedly suffered a head injury and was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital while the male suffered a hip injury and was taken to The Alfred Hospital.
Thirty motorcyclists have lost their lives on Victorian roads so far this year, a 20 per cent increase on the same period for 2021.
