Popular fruit and vegetable store Henrys Mercato is coming to Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre, part of a huge new fresh food precinct.

The Mulgrave centre is set to undergo renovations next month, with the new Super Fresh precinct to open in October.

Located in the east wing of the centre, Super Fresh will become one of the largest fresh fruit and vegetable precincts in Melbourne’s southeast, with the introduction of new stores including Henrys Mercato and Indian and Asian grocers.

Aldi will also be moving into the precinct.

Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre manager Belinda Donnelly said Super Fresh will offer something for everyone.

“Super Fresh will no doubt be an exciting and welcomed addition to the centre – we’re proud of our diverse customer base and this new precinct will provide a vast array of fresh food options for all cultures and backgrounds. We can’t wait for the community to experience it for themselves,” she said.

The centre is also home to all three major supermarkets – Woolworths, Coles and Aldi.

Target, which opened at Waverley Gardens in the late 70s, will shut its doors on April 10.

The Target store is tipped to become Aldi’s new home.

Shoppers have taken to Facebook to discuss the future of the Target store, with many believing Aldi is set to move in.

Aldi said it had been in discussions with the centre owners and would be making an announcement shortly.

Following the Waverley Gardens store closure, the closest Target stores will be at The Glen and Dandenong Plaza.

A Target spokeswoman previously told Leader the company wanted to thank its Waverley Gardens team, the local community and all of its customers for shopping with them over the years.

“Our focus is on supporting our team through this time as we work through achieving their desired outcomes for the future whether that is in suitable redeployment within other Wesfarmers businesses as well as with other local employers or accessing their entitlements for any permanent team members,” the spokeswoman said.

Meanwhile, Aldi said it was hopeful its long-awaited Boronia store would open late next year, with the developer working through the design of the development
