TEMPLESTOWE

A damaged van sporting stolen plates was used in two petrol thefts in three days in January. The Toyota van, which has distinctive damage to the front grill, used stolen plates SWP-672 to nick about $60 worth of fuel from a service station in Templestowe on January 7. The same van with stolen plates 1KD-7IG was used to steal petrol in Doncaster East on January 10. Both sets of registration plates were stolen in Manningham. The white Toyota van was fitted with a roof rack with PVC tubes on either side. Anyone with information is asked to contact Senior Constable Ben Hales at Manningham CIU on 8841 3999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au

LOWER TEMPLESTOWE

An eight-year-old girl was treated for minor injuries after the car she was in was hit by another vehicle at a Lower Templestowe intersection earlier this month. A 68-year-old Lower Templestowe man, who was driving a Citroen sedan, failed to give way while turning right from Rooney St into Hazel Drive, colliding with a Volkswagen sedan about 7.30pm on February 6. The Volkswagen was being driven by a 42-year-old Bulleen woman who was not hurt. The child was treated for minor injuries before being taken to hospital for observations. Nunawading Highway Patrol Sergeant Tim Price said the man, who was not injured, was given a ticket for failing to give way.

Victoria Police is warning barbecue lovers about fraudulent websites offering not-so-sizzling deals. Investigators believe customers are asked to make a payment via direct bank transfer but the goods are not being delivered. The scam is believed to be Australia-wide, with more than 100 reports across Victoria alone. Darebin CIU detective Senior Constable Samantha Petch said people should be careful shopping online.
