Manningham CIU detectives have been told a vehicle was broken into on Kelvan Grove, Doncaster East, on March 3, with a number of bank cards stolen.

They have since been used by a man to buy cigarettes, sandwiches, fuel and yoghurts at a number of service stations across Box Hill South, Burwood, Malvern and Carnegie.

It is believed the man may have been driving a white Audi sedan with stolen numberplates AHY-873.

The plates were stolen from a Nunawading address.

Police have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is described as South American with a medium build and wearing a long-sleeved top and green cargo shorts. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

DONCASTER

Manningham detectives arrested a 29-year-old man on April 6 after he allegedly cut himself on broken glass while breaking into a Doncaster mower shop. Police said a number of chainsaws were stolen in the January burglary. The man, from Melton West, was remanded in custody to appear at court later this year.

DONCASTER

Police used OC foam to subdue a 31-year-old man who threatened them with a knife after they were called to a house in Nathan St. Other occupants of the Doncaster house were evacuated and the man disarmed without anyone being hurt. Nunawading police Sergeant Simon Webb said he was taken to Box Hill hospital for psychiatric assessment about 6.30pm on April 10.

WARRANDYTE

A pregnant woman wasn’t injured but was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for a check-up after smashing into a ute at the corner of Tindals and Reynolds roads in Warrandyte. The 32-year-old from Doncaster East was turning right into Reynolds Rd and collided with a Mazda ute being driven by a 35-year-old Croydon man. The Mazda and the woman’s Hyundai were both towed but no one was hurt. Nunawading police Sergeant Simon Webb said police were still investigating.

MANNINGHAM

Manningham CIU Sergeant Anthony Downes said car owners needed to remain vigilant to prevent thefts from their vehicles. “Thieves love unlocked cars but there are some simple steps to reduce your likelihood of being a victim of opportunistic crime,” he said.
