FITZROY Doncaster’s already imposing pace battery is set to receive another boost with the Lions set to unleash young quick Sam Elliott after a stint in the TAC Cup.

Elliott, the son of former Test batsman Matthew, played four games with the Oakleigh Chargers this year but has commenced pre-season training with the Lions.

Fitzroy Doncaster held its first pre-season session on July 8 and captain Ejaaz Alavi said Elliott looked “fit, firing and ready to go”.

“Unfortunately he has been hit by a few injuries over the past few years and hasn’t been able to get as many games as he would have liked but … (he) looks like he is really fit and ready to have a big year for us and push for higher honours,” Alavi said.

know he is training with the Vic pace squad, the junior pace squad, which is pretty good, and they’re training at the Junction Oval twice a week so that is going to be really good for him as well.

“He has a lot of talent, big, tall fast bowler so we’d love to have him and play a full season ahead.”

Elliott played three games with Fitzroy Doncaster in the Fourth XI at the end of 2016-17.

He did not featured in the Premier Cricket ranks last season and turned his focus to football, also lining up with Carey Grammar in the APS competition in 2017.

Alavi said Elliott, considered one of the quickest bowlers at Schramms Reserve, would be a chance to feature in the First XI this summer.

“We’ll see how he goes before Round 1, hopefully he’s fit and if he’s there, he’s always a chance to be selected,” he said.

“I’ve spoken to him a little bit over the last couple of weeks and he is really excited, fit and he is going to get the opportunity to play finally because he just hasn’t had the opportunity the last couple of years.”
