Australian women’s captain Meg Lanning hammered a new Women’s Premier Cricket record on Sunday after a stunning display for Box Hill against Plenty Valley.
Lanning hit 39 boundaries and 2 sixes in her incredible knock of 244 from only 145 deliveries at Box Hill City Oval.

She was dismissed in the last over of the innings after setting a new record for the highest score in the competition.
The knock eclipsed Lanning’s previous best score of 241 not out, which she set in November 2012.
Box Hill coach Rick Cullinan said it was the best knock he had seen in the women’s game.
“We just happened to witness something that was extraordinary and I don’t think there is much more than we can say about it,” Cullinan said.
“There is nothing you can add, it was just amazing.”

The 26-year-old opened the batting with sister Anna and put on 218 for the first wicket at better than a run-a-ball.
Anna departed for 85 from 111 deliveries as Box Hill tallied a mammoth 2/384 from its 50 overs, powering to a 192-run victory.
Plenty Valley batted its 50 overs but was never in the hunt, responding with 9/192.
Cullinan said Lanning’s display was a “360-degree game”.
“Any time there was a short ball, wide ball or ball to drive, she just pierced the gap,” he said.
“It was so relentless anytime she hit a ball for four, you’d turn around and people would say, ‘it’s extraordinary’. It was beautiful to watch.
“Had a look at the wagon wheel at the end of the game and every quadrant had 53 scoring shots in it.
“It was just extraordinary … just said after the game that we were privileged to witness it.”
Lanning captained Australia to T20 World Cup glory in November before turning out for Perth Scorchers in the WBBL.
The rare club cricket appearance from Lanning was her first in two years and likely a one-off for this season as the WNCL season resumes this weekend.
