CHADSTONE has secured its first win almost three years.
The Synners’ first win since a Round 16, 2012 success against Mt Lilydale came with a 27-point win over Masala in their Division 4 clash at Jordan Reserve on Saturday.
Coach Ken Schwab said recent changes around the club had been significant in the win.
“Two weeks ago we sat down and had a meeting about the direction the club was heading,” Schwab said.
“The players decided to take real ownership of the club and we’ve had more spirit since then.”
With scores level at half time, an eight-goal-to-four second half meant Chadstone led 13.7 (85) to 8.10 (58) when the final siren sounded.
Jake Farrugia starred in the win, booting seven goals, while Keith Biggs, captain David Bennett and Carl Margary were also among the best.
“It was a really great day for the club,” Schwab said.
“It’s the first time in as long as I can remember that the firsts and seconds won on the same day.”
For a number of players it was their first win for Chadstone, something Schwab described as very special.
“For the younger guys or new recruits this is finally some reward for effort,” he said.
“Hopefully this gives us some momentum and confidence going forward as it really shows that we do have the ability to win.
“It’s also fantastic for the supporters who have waited so long to see us triumphant again.”
Chadstone will be looking to continue its winning form when it plays Box Hill North on the road.
In Premier B, Mazenod lost to Old Brighton by 43 points, 15.17 (107) to 9.10 (64).
In Premier C, Monash Blues continued its hot form with a 91-point win over Old Haileyburians, 18.18 (126) to 5.5 (35). Nicholas Petering kicked five goals in a dominant performance, while Damien Hatch added four of his own.
Charlie Rossetti once again put in a best on ground performance, while Joseph Cosgriff and Andrew Hickey were also among the best.
Also in Premier C, Oakleigh lost to Williamstown CYMS by 21 points, 21.12 (138) to 17.15 (117).
