Big V Basketball: Alex Gynes, Amelia Smith among the top players

There were some huge performances in round 4 of Big V Basketball including a 41-point game from a Maccabi star. See our top 10 performers of the week.

Big V Basketball’s best players are continuing to impress after a scintillating start to the season.

Across all six divisions of senior action, the ladder is starting to take shape after four rounds of action.

Here are our top 10 performers from last weekend.

Ida Andersson, Sunbury, Championship Women

Despite having an off shooting night, the Jets’ import had a massive impact in her side’s win over Chelsea. She finished with 16 points, nine steals, eight assists and six assists as she went extremely close to a quadruple-double. Andersson also had a block.

Sharna Appleby, Altona, Division 2 Women

Altona remains unbeaten in 2022 and it partly comes down to the form of Appleby. She enjoyed another big game on the weekend finishing with 25 points and seven boards as the Gators edged out Blackburn by nine points.

Alicia Carline, Sherbrooke, Division 1 Women

Carline was in fantastic form as the Suns continued their unbeaten start to the season finishing with 26 points, on 13-18 shooting, and 14 rebounds in a big win over Mildura. She was also a big factor at the defensive end with three blocks and two steals.

Alex Gynes, Warrnambool, Division 1 Men

The former NBL big man came to play when his team needed him most as the Seahawks came away with their first wins of the season. He finished with 28 points and 17 rebounds against Collingwood on Saturday before backing it up with 28 points and 16 rebounds against RMIT. Both games were played on the road.

Marnie Houghton, Camberwell, Division 1 Women

Houghton played a big role in the Dragons win as they made it three out of four to start the season. She had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Camberwell went on to secure a big win over Craigieburn. Houghton hit five shots from deep.

Dareon Jones, Southern Peninsula, Division 1 Men

While Southern Peninsula might not have taken home a win on its double-header weekend, Jones ensured he gave his team every opportunity. Against Keysborough on Saturday night he had 29 points and 14 points before going bigger with 35 points and 11 rebounds against Warrandyte.

Brad Murfett, Mornington Peninsula, Division 2 Men

Murfett helped the Breakers to their fourth win of the shooting after scoring 35 points, including five triples, in a 17-point win over Melton. He also feasted on the boards with 21 rebounds.

Jason Reardon, Bellarine, Division 1 Men

Reardon enjoyed a fantastic weekend for the Storm as he came close to finishing with two triple-doubles. In the first game against Melbourne University, he had 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. He then backed it up with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists against Coburg. The Storm won both games.

Amelia Smith, Melbourne University, Division 1 Women

The Melbourne Uni star did a bit of everything as her side won their second game of the season against Craigieburn by 19 points. Smith was a dominant force at both ends as she finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and six steals. She had a resounding eight offensive boards.

Benji Tamir, Maccabi, Division 2 Men

Despite the Warriors not coming away with the win against Surf Coast, Tamir produced a stunning individual display with 41 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. He also had three blocks and three steals.
