A mother who used her mates’ names to defraud toys and tech out of a shopping credit scheme has been slapped with a fine.

Sarah Marchiori pleaded guilty at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on July 6, to obtain property by deception, drive while disqualified, use other drug of dependence and fail to answer bail.

Court documents reveal the mum used stolen credit card details on Afterpay to buy a Samsung Galaxy tablet, backpack, headphones and toys valued at $411.96 between February 10 and March 8, 2019.

Marchiori employed the same method to buy an Apple iPad, more toys, makeup, a Fitbit, and clothing worth more than $1000 between September 13, 2018 and March 21, 2019.

According to the police summary the 32-year-old signed up to three separate Afterpay accounts, using the names of friends and associates, attaching stolen credit card numbers to purchase items.

Marchiori then attached her name and address to the goods, including toys for her children and Manchester, for pick up or delivery.

But her offending wasn’t confined to just retail therapy.

Court documents reveal in December 2019, police responded to a call about suspicious, drug affected women about 7.20pm in McComb Crescent, Bayswater.

Not only did officers discover Marchiori was wanted for failing to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on November 4, 2019, but they also found drugs in her handbag.

According to documents police found a 60ml Colgate bottle full of GHB and a small zip lock bag with white crystal – believed to be ice.

While on their way back to the police station Marchiori fell in and out of consciousness because of the drugs she had taken and landed herself at Maroondah Hospital.

Police stopped Marchiori while she was driving her Mazda sedan along Burwood Highway in Wantirna on September 30, 2017.

After producing her passport, police discovered she was driving while disqualified.

Magistrate David Starvaggi fined Marchiori $400 and ordered to pay $1424.76 in compensation.
