A teenager is being treated in hospital with serious upper-body injuries after witnesses found him lying on the ground, bleeding heavily in Mitcham.
Forest Hill police Acting Senior Sergeant Glenn Owens told Whitehorse Leader at the scene that passers-by called emergency services when they found the young Wantirna man on Purches St about 3pm bleeding heavily from cuts to his upper body that were initially thought to be life-threatening.
Acting Sen-Sgt Owens said further police inquiries had linked the man to a possible burglary at a home in nearby Churinga Ave, and he said the cuts may have been caused by broken glass as he allegedly broke into the home.
Investigations were underway to determine if anything had been taken from the property, Sen-Sgt Owens said, and man was helping police with their inquiries.
“Just before 3pm today passers-by were alerted to a man bleeding heavily who collapsed on the road and as a result they’ve called the ambulance and police,” Sen-Sgt Owens said.
“Police and the ambulance attended promptly. At this stage he’s at the hospital which is the best place for him.”
