A 19-STOREY apartment building will soar above Glen Waverley as part of a planned $500 million redevelopment of The Glen.
More than 500 apartments across three residential towers, branded “vertical villages”, were the highlight of an application for a planning permit, which Federation Centres and Perron Group submitted to Monash Council.
The highest tower would be 19 storeys and sit on the southern end of the Springvale Rd property, with the other towers seven and 13 storeys high, all above a new town square.
If approved, the 19-storey building would be the tallest in Glen Waverley, dwarfing the 10-storey IKON building and a recently approved 15-storey building on O’Sullivan Rd, which is yet to be built.
The works would expand the centre, which was built in 1967, by 17,000sq m and create 2600 jobs.

Federation Centres spokeswoman Ali O’Shea trumpeted a new car parking system with 3800 cars, an increase she estimated at about 800 spaces.
Mrs O’Shea described it as a “coloured lighting system to direct and help guide drivers to available spaces”, similar to what is used at Chadstone Shopping Centre and Westfield Doncaster.
Mrs O’Shea said the development would include 200 specialty stores, new international retailers and national brands, but declined to name the stores.

After Waverley Leader broke the news online on Wednesday, many readers reacted with concerns about parking and the changing face of Glen Waverley.
But Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris reassured neighbouring residents they would be consulted.
“We will be reviewing this proposal closely, particularly in regard to parking issues and the height of the residential towers,” Cr Klisaris said.
“It’s important that we consult widely with our community on major developments like this one.”
Cr Klisaris said there would be an information session and letters sent to surrounding residents.
