An out-of-control mob of youths caused chaos in a quiet eastern suburbs street after a party at an Airbnb property turned wild.
Specialist police units were called in to clear the dozens of troublemaking youths from Watson Ave in Mont Albert North about 5am on Saturday, after police had already visited the street earlier in the night.
A woman, who said she was scared to be named, said her family were bothered by a group five men drinking alcohol and being loud in the street about midnight, before she woke about 3am to “horrible noise”.
“It was dozens of people all running down Watson Ave, screaming and carrying on.”
“There was a fight brewing.”
She said up to 70 people — all aged in their 20s and of African appearance — were running riot in the street.
The woman said she rang police multiple times throughout the night and couldn’t sleep out of fear.
“It was volatile,” she said.
“If you’d known what was going you wouldn’t have slept.”
She said she watched an ambulance turn up at 5am, and one of her neighbours told her he had watched the youths trying to break into cars on the street.

Victoria Police Leading Senior Constable Adam West confirmed police were called to Watson and Lincoln avenues about 4am on Saturday after noise complaints and reports of youths causing trouble.
“Police attended an address in Lincoln Ave and spoke to the occupants of a short-stay rental property where a party was being held,” he said.
Leading Sen-Constable West said police were then called back about 5am after “reports an unknown group of people had attended the party”.
He said no arrests were made but the rented property had been damaged, which police were investigating.
The woman said the incident was completely out-of-character for the “sleepy” area, which was home to families and the elderly.
“I’m really scared,” she said. “I just hope we never get that again.”
