A group of thugs wielding poles and covering their faces attacked a group of Forest Hill College students just after they left the school grounds on Friday afternoon.
Students from the college were two blocks from the school when they were approached by four males, who ran towards them yelling, before assaulting them and striking them with red poles.
Forest Hill police Acting Sergeant Melissa Martin said the offenders wore black hoodies and used clothing to obscure their faces as they attacked the students on Robinlee Ave, Burwood East, shortly after 3.30pm.
Sergeant Paul Egan said the males initially approached two students, before three others — who went to their friends’ rescue — were also caught up in the scuffle.
One student managed to get away and run back to the school for help.
Sgt Egan said an 18-year-old Forest Hill man, an 18-year-old Box Hill North man, a 19-year-old Glen Waverley man and a 17-year-old Forest Hill man — all students at the school — received minor injuries.
The offenders drove off before police arrived.

Forest Hill College principal David Rogers said he was aware of the incident that “involved some of our students and other unknown individuals who are not students at our school”.
