Olympic Village Primary School students have started the term on a high, getting a further cash boost to their $6 million school rebuild.
The old dilapidated school was demolished and rebuilt as a state-of-the-art learning facility, with students moving into classrooms in term 4 last year.
The Heidelberg West school has received an extra $200,000 to build creative play and outdoor learning areas.
Principal Cresten Pearce said the students were very pleased with their new digs.
“They absolutely love it, we’re really celebrating it,” she said.
“The old school was in shocking condition, it wasn’t repairable,”
Once the students moved into the new school, the old buildings were demolished.
“Each classroom has their own courtyard, the school is specifically designed for education, with acoustics and colour schemes in mind with flexible education spaces,” she said.
Ivanhoe state Labor MP Anthony Carbines announced the primary school would receive a further $200,000 as part of the Inclusive Schools Fund.

“I commend the work of the Olympic Village Primary School community in working together to build the new school and now the outdoor infrastructure they need to inspire a passion for learning in all students,” Mr Carbines said.
The cash will go towards inclusive learning spaces, outdoor sensory areas and accessible playgrounds.
Since the fund was established in 2015, more than 230 projects have received funding.
