Mount Waverley dog attack at Tally Ho Reserve and owners urged to come forward

A terrifying dog attack at a Mt Waverley park, which left a scared pup with 20 stitches, only stopped after a good Samaritan used a garden hose. Now the injured animal’s family is urging the vicious canine’s owners to come forward.

A vicious dog’s owners are being urged to come forward after a terrifying attack on a Mt Waverley cavoodle.

Selina Huynh said her family had been left $1700 out of pocket, and expected hundreds of dollars more in recovery costs, after their pet Louie was attacked outside Tally Ho Reserve on April 14.

Ms Huynh urged the owners of what she believed to be a staffordshire bull terrier to come forward following the traumatic incident.

The attacked happened about 5.30pm when Ms Huynh’s sister Shina was walking Louie.

Louie was rushed to the vet after the attack.

“The other dog was leashed but it was being held by a teenage girl who couldn’t hold on to the lead and all of a sudden this other dog comes barrelling towards Louie and just latches on to him,” she said.

Ms Huynh said Shina attempted to split up the two dogs but received cuts and bruises to her hand in the process.

It wasn’t until a nearby homeowner intervened with a garden hose that the attack stopped.

“A good Samaritan saw what was happening and heard what was happening, and took a garden hose and hosed everyone down which prompted the attacking dog to release Louie,” Ms Huynh said.

As soon as the scared pup was released by the staffy, Louie made a dash for it and bolted back home, she said.

“He was bleeding a fair bit from his chest and neck area, it was critical. He’s now at home with 20 stitches in him and very bruised,” Ms Huynh said.

“We’re trying to work out who they are, we’ve reported it to (Monash) council but we’re hoping they’ll do the right thing and come forward. Louie is still very anxious and scared.”

Monash Council Mayor Stuart James said the attack was “worrying” and confirmed the incident was reported to the council on April 14.

“Council is investigating this incident but has limited information to go on and would appeal to the owner of the dog involved in the incident or any witnesses to contact our team on 9518 3555,” Cr James said.

“The second dog is described as a powerfully built dog, possibly a staffordshire terrier that was being walked by a girl.

“The girl left with the dog and did not exchange any information.”
