Melbourne shopper 'exposed and shocked' after man allegedly bursts into Zara Doncaster changing room

A Melbourne woman says she was left “exposed and shocked” after a man allegedly yanked open her Zara fitting room curtain at a major Melbourne shopping centre.

A Melbourne woman has been left shaken and furious after a man allegedly ripped open the curtain of her fitting room at Zara while she was undressed.

Doncaster East woman Rita had been shopping on the upper level of the fashion giant on Tuesday last week when she picked up two items to try on.

She then walked into a nearby change room after finding the one near her was closed.

Rita was undressed when the curtain was allegedly yanked open by an unknown man.

She jumped in shock before slamming the curtain shut and hastily getting dressed.

The shopper said she immediately approached a staff member upstairs to ask whether it had been an employee, but was told it wasn’t.

She then went downstairs to speak to another staff member who said the upper-level fitting rooms were “not manned” and that customers were expected to use the change rooms on the lower level, but Rita said there was no signage indicating that.

Rita later uploaded a video on TikTok under her handle @iamrita_h, which has drawn more than a million views, telling followers she had asked Zara staff to check CCTV to confirm who entered her cubicle.

“I’m sitting in my car at the Doncaster shopping centre, and I just had something that kind of upset me a lot,” she said.

“Lord help me. I just had a male burst into my change room while I’m naked, and you’re telling me I shouldn’t have used that change room that was open for everyone to use.”

Rita said she later received a text message from the store apologising and stating they were unable to assist further, adding staff “did not know anything about it”.

In a follow-up video, Rita said she heard back from an Australian representative from Zara who reviewed footage and said a “male worker was seen walking into the changing room area” after her and “opened the curtain.”

Rita said she “refuted” the word “opened” because, from her experience, “it felt aggressive”.

“My curtain was pulled open so suddenly and aggressively that I was exposed and shocked,” she said.

She warned women going to Westfield Doncaster — particularly those visiting Zara — to be careful.

“Ladies, please be careful using change rooms. As mine was aggressively opened whilst I was undressed,” she said.

The Herald Sun has contacted Zara Australia multiple times for comment, but no statement has been provided.
