Melbourne real estate agent Jason Salan pleads guilty to sexually assaulting woman at venue toilet

An award-winning Melbourne estate agent pulled a woman into a disabled toilet to sexually assault her after he’d been to work drinks.

A former Melbourne real estate director violated a woman in a disabled toilet after consuming alcohol at a work function.

Jason Salan, 52, pleaded guilty at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to sexual assault.

The court heard Salan sexually assaulted a woman at a venue in Melbourne’s east late last year.

Salan, who was “unknown” to the woman, followed his victim into the female bathroom.

“Where are you going?,” Salan asked his victim.

The fiend then grabbed the victim’s arm and lead her towards the disabled toilet.

“No you can’t,” the victim told Salan.

However, Salan, who was the boss of a Melbourne real estate agency at the time, locked the door, the court was told.

The victim attempted to walk away from Salan but the grub had her cornered.

“Show me your t--s,” Salan demanded.

Salan then performed a lewd sexual assault which lasted “approximately 30 seconds”.

“Great t--s,” Salan said.

Salan told his victim to “calm down”.

The victim fled to the female toilets to escape her attacker but the court heard Salan waited outside the bathroom for several minutes.

The matter was reported to police who later interviewed Salan before charging the deviant agent.

Top barrister Rishi Nathwani SC, for Salan, submitted his client was of prior “good character”.

Mr Nathwani, who said his client had attempted to apologise to the victim, said Salan had been “drinking a lot” prior to the sexual assault.

Jason Salan is an award-winning estate agent who now works as a property consultant.

The award-winning agent was at the venue after attending a work function, the court was told.

Salan has since stood down as director and has suffered financial pain through legal bills and other expenses, the defence submitted to the court.

Mr Nathwani said his client — who has worked for Fletchers Real Estate Manningham — was now employed as a property consultant and was the “sole bread winner” for his family.

The prosecution, in calling for Salan to be convicted, said the woman’s victim impact statement would be read to the court prior to sentencing at a later date.
