A would-be burglar tried to steal cash from Bulleen’s Veneto Club but instead left with two tiramisu deserts.
Manningham detective Senior Sergeant Rohan Courtis said a person tampered with the club’s front door lock and was able to activate electric sliding doors to get inside at 3.30am on Sunday, May 31.
The offender then broke another lock at the front of the venue’s strong room but couldn’t gain entry.
Sen-Sgt Courtis said the person then found two tiramisus somewhere inside the venue and left the scene.
He said police were reviewing CCTV footage and appealing for the public’s help to track down the would-be burglar.
“They must have been hungry … it’s an opportunist attempt at breaking into the club and was not well planned,” Sen-Sgt Courtis said.
Meanwhile, a black Mercedes sedan was stolen from Doncaster East’s United petrol station early on Saturday night.
Sen-Sgt Courtis said the incident occurred at the station on Reynolds Rd between 5pm and 6pm on May 30 after the owner left the car unlocked with the keys still in the engine.
He said someone then got in the car — registration number TCW 503 – while it was unattended and then drove off.
Sen-Sgt Courtis said it was one of three cars stolen in Manningham over the weekend, including a Mazda 3 in Bulleen’s Westall Rd overnight on May 30 and a Nissan Navara ute in Templestowe’s Church Rd on May 31.
