Shoppers have wasted no time stocking up after lockdown, with a number of empty shelves at Kmart stores in Burwood East and Knox City shopping centre.
Items such as pillows, laundry baskets, camping chairs, blankets, and fans have been snapped up, with little or no stock left on the shelves earlier this week.
Shoppers have been urged to buy presents early this year, with reports China supply issues could cause empty shelves across Australia by Christmas.
Queues of customers recently lined up at Kmart stores across Melbourne when lockdown finally lifted.
A Kmart spokesperson did not say if it was experiencing stock shortages, but said it had been excited to recently reopen its Melbourne stores to customers again.
“It has been a very busy period since our stores reopened and we have been excited to see lots of our customers coming to shop in store,” the spokesperson said.
“Kmart Burwood is one of our 24 hour trading stores and excitingly has been heavily shopped since reopening.
“The team have been working hard to keep shelves full and the great news is we are getting daily deliveries of new stock right up until Christmas to keep up with demand.”
