A Glen Waverley family man who peddled heroin to support his wife and school-aged children has promised a court he’s ready to turn over a new leaf after some heavy-duty drug dealing.

A drug-dealing dad who peddled heroin from his Glen Waverley family home to support his wife, children and mother-in-law has been freed from jail.

Hoang Dinh accepted a sentencing indication of time served, or 280 days’ jail, at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Dinh’s latest offending in October came just four months after he was released from prison on similar charges, Dinh’s lawyer Ashlea Addamo told the court.

Court documents revealed police busted Dinh and his wife, who was also arrested and charged, dealing heroin from their car on October 24 in Cambridge Drive, Glen Waverley.

Police observed a transaction take place in the quiet suburban street and later tried to intercept the duplicitous duo.

Dinh, who was driving, took off and almost rammed a police car in his haste to get away, according to court documents.

A package containing $15,000 worth of heroin was also thrown from the front passenger window as they sped away.

The couple were followed to The Glen shopping centre where they were arrested.

Police charge sheets also revealed they were arrested in 2017 after police raided their home, which they share with their two school-aged children and Dinh’s mother-in-law, and seized thousands of dollars worth of heroin and $80,000 cash.

Magistrate Marc Sargent said he accepted Ms Addamo’s submissions at Dinh’s failed bail hearing earlier this year that her client was ready to turn over a new leaf.

But he indicated he would also impose a community corrections order and cancel Dinh’s licence for eight months.

“Mr Dinh has expressed a desire to return to a productive lifestyle,” Mr Sargent said.

“I’ve added two months onto one of the minimum’s (licence loss for his driving offences) to reflect the seriousness of the crimes.”

Dinh is due back at court on August 3 for sentencing.
