An aspiring alleged thief has been branded a “filthy waste of oxygen” after they allegedly tried to break into a kebab store in Melbourne’s east, with owners exposing them on social media.
Glenny Kebabs posted security camera footage and stills of a person allegedly trying to enter its Mount Waverley store at Pinewood Shopping Centre at 4.17am on Friday.
Owner Asad Syed said he was alerted by one of his cleaners who confronted the would-be thief as they turned up for work.
The person then fled down an alleyway near the rear of the store, with Mr Syed saying they took a key and a key safe.
He claimed a nearby cafe, Cafe 57, was also targeted in the early-morning incident.
In his Instagram post, Mr Syed said the person “fled like the little coward he is, just like how a rat runs for its life.
“It was a failed break in, because the person lacks any and all common sense and was clearly suffering from the effects of all types of stupidity,” he wrote.
“My deepest sympathies to the mother who gave birth to this thing.”
Mr Syed told Leader he was concerned the centre was becoming an increased target for break-ins and thefts, claiming several incidents had occurred in the past three months.
“Two months ago Coles was ramraided, a few days after that the optometrist was robbed, there’s been a string of things,” he said.
“We gotta change the keys and stuff now, it’s just unnecessary and puts people out.”
After reviewing the footage, Mr Syed said the would-be thief appeared to have a ponytail, a tattoo on their left wrist and “super thin” eyebrows.
He said the matter had been reported to local police, and urged anyone who recognised the would-be thief to contact the store or officers.
Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.
