McDONALD’S first Victorian restaurant has been demolished.

But fans of Big Macs and Quarter Pounders need not despair, with the Glen Waverley venue to be replaced by a modern Maccas.

The family restaurant at 768-770 High St Rd served its first burgers in October 1973, and while it has been renovated several times since, it is now getting the full makeover.

The store will have a McCafe, playground, party room, and enough seats for 139 diners.

The new digs will be will be up to 7.875m in height with compressed fibre cement with a modern finish.

The non-compliant carparks and accessway will be redone to ensure it meets Australian standards.

It will have 43 parking spots — down from 57 — including one disabled space, with two waiting bays at the end of the drive-through.

McDonald’s Australia spokesman Skye Oxenham said “renovations are underway” but would not provide any images or the new build or the store when it was first built.

“Construction is already underway at Glen Waverley and we are looking forward to opening an exciting new restaurant later in the year,” Ms Oxenham said.

The company refused to state why the store had been demolished, and simply said the works would be finished later this year.

Monash Council considered the application in April last year but only gave a permit in April this year.
