After a tough year for retailers, a women’s fashion outlet has closed at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre, with several other stores hosting massive clearance sales.

Women’s clothing chain Rockmans appears to have shut its doors at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre.

In recent weeks, a sign on the store said it was temporarily closing to protect customers from the spread of COVID-19, but the store has now been boarded up and Rockmans signage has been removed.

According to a recent report, Rockmans owner Mosaic Brands, which also owns Noni B and Millers, booked a whopping $170m full-year net loss in August, but last month posted a slim first-half net profit of $13m.

The group announced in October it had closed 73 stores in response to “unrealistic rental requests and a permanent shift towards online purchases”, saying it would potentially close up to 500 of its 1300-plus store portfolio nationally over the next year or two.

Other Mosaic Brands-owned stores at Forest Hill Chase, including Noni B, Rivers and Millers are currently holding up to 70 per cent off sales.

But in better news for the centre, Birdies Mini Golf Bar is set to open near Hoyts cinemas in March.
