BOASTING a 250-item menu, beer garden and Bollywood-style function rooms, a huge new Indian restaurant will open its doors in Wantirna this week.
The Dosa Hut has been described by owner Rampal Muthyala as the biggest Indian restaurant in Australia, both in size — 700sq m — and capacity, with room for up to 520 people.
The venue is at the site of a former conference and function centre at 137 Mountain Highway.
The Wantirna Dosa Hut will be the 14th franchise in Australia.
“Rather than think small we wanted to think big,” Mr Muthyala said.

“Anyone can open a restaurant, we wanted to do something different and offer room for functions and weddings.
“We don’t have any venue that’s like this.”
He said Wantirna was chosen for the mega-site because of the demand for Indian cuisine and from Indians who live in the outer east and want somewhere local to for weddings and other big celebrations.
The menu will boast more than 250 options, including 100 varieties of dosa, a South Indian style pancake.
The building has been refurbished with new function rooms, a beer garden and five-chef commercial kitchen.
Several functions and weddings have already been booked.
The build-up has been so big former Prime Minister Tony Abbott dropped in for a sneak-peek event in February.
Mr Muthyala said the February preview hosted 200 guests, including Mr Abbott, “a friend of a friend”.
The Dosa Hut will open for dinner seven nights a week, and lunch Thursday to Sunday.
