PLANS for an apartment complex in Doncaster have prompted a Manningham councillor to raise fears about what it could do to neighbours’ wellbeing.

The council has approved plans for a 79-apartment, four-storey building to replace a single family home in Doncaster.

The site, at 92-96 Williamsons Rd, currently has a family home, big backyard and pool.

But in replacing the home with a 79-apartment block, Cr Mike Zafiropoulos said developers and the council needed to consider the downside for remaining neighbours.

“It is important we consider the implications of rapid growth. When you have a family of three or four next door to you, and then all of a sudden you have 200 people, the implications for wellbeing are enormous,” he said.

The council received eight objections to the Winex Property plans, primarily relating to density, when the proposal was first advertised in November 2016.

The plans were readvertised after amendments were negotiated between Winex and the council, with access redesigned following input from VicRoads.

Cr Dot Haynes said the new proposal was in line with planning regulations.

“This is definitely a substantial change for the area but we all know the council’s decisions are made in accordance with the planning scheme and the planning scheme calls for this to be an area of significant change,” she said.

Cr Anna Chen said she opposed the plans because the building height surpassed the planning scheme’s preferred maximum of 11m.

The block is expected to have a site coverage of about 60 per cent with a height of about 13m.
