TWO trees will be spared the axe in a proposed Doncaster townhouse development in a bid to address neighbours’ privacy concerns.
The $5 million proposal will see 14 three-storey townhouses built in Thiele St after Manningham Council gave the project the go-ahead last week.
But an 11th hour demand by the council will see two trees on the Thiele St frontage spared after two objectors raised fears they’re privacy would be impacted.

The homes will feature 13 one-bedroom and one five-bedroom dwellings. Plans also include a shared basement carpark for 30 vehicles.
The three lots to be developed — 16, 18 and 20 — are on the east side of Thiele St about 200m from the Doncaster Rd intersection.
The retention of the trees was the key among several amendments the council sought after the plans were first lodged last May.
Cr Dot Haynes said the move would make the project agreeable to objectors.
“The two trees will be kept for people who were worried about the townhouses overlooking on to their properties,” she said.
Thiele St homeowner Brenda Bollas told the Leader the project was more agreeable than an apartment tower but raised concerns about transport.
“(Congestion) will get worse — I don’t think they’ve thought about (public transport) infrastructure for the area,” she said.
