THE DIRECTOR of a Burwood East Bakery which failed who failed to keep “live animals” out of its dirty kitchen has been convicted and fined $20,000 for breaching multiple food safety laws.
Christopher Orlando, director of 8 Artisan Bakers on Burwood Hwy, was found guilty of multiple Food Act breaches in the Ringwood Magistrates Court.
He was prosecuted by Whitehorse Council after local laws officers found evidence live animals had been in the Burwood Hwy bakery’s dirty food preparation areas, the court heard.

The charges related to Food Act offences between December 2016 and July 2017.
It’s believed the bakery, which is still open for business, is now meeting all Food Act standards.
Mr Orlando was also convicted for failing to keep the bakery’s walls, ceilings and floors clean
enough to prevent “harbourage for pests”.
The bakery’s shoddy food storage practices were also slammed with Mr Orlando convicted for failing to protect food from the “likelihood of contamination”.
There was also insufficient handwashing facilities, bad garbage storage and inadequate equipment “for the production of safe and suitable food”.
Mr Orlando was ordered to pay $12,000 in court costs when the hearing concluded on April 23.
