Deaf, blind pooch cruises luxury convertible along West Heidelberg footpath
Why walk your dog on a leash when you could go hi-tech? Cops cruising a Heidelberg West street thought they were going barking mad when they spotted this unlicensed, deaf and blind joy-rider — but it was a normal day out for Buddy.

You’d have to be barking mad to drive on the footpath, but that didn’t stop this driver from cruising along it in his black Mercedes convertible.
107 year old (in dog years) deaf and blind pooch, Buddy, was seen joy-riding in his remote controlled luxury car in West Heidelberg.
The elderly driver hooned down Waterdale road, before being pulled over by police on Tuesday morning.
Leading Senior Constable Lynda Giblett said she’d never seen anything like it.
“Of course we had to stop and check it out,” she said.
“We couldn’t believe our eyes.”
Buddy’s owner Terri, who is also deaf, takes him for walks frequently and controls the Merc from a few metres behind.
Cruising in his car is the most effective way for Buddy to get the fresh air he needs.
“It absolutely made our day,” Constable Giblett said.

The police said although Buddy doesn’t hold a valid Driver’s licence, he was not a threat to the safety of the community.
“Buddy was so lovely and divine,” Sen-Constable Giblett said.
The policewoman said she had let Buddy off with a warning and also a fair amount of cuddles.
