A popular Box Hill laser tag venue is closing its doors after 20 years.
The operators of Darkzone announced on Facebook they would close the flagship venue on Whitehorse Rd at the end of its lease in January 2021.
“Although ongoing COVID restrictions have made life very difficult for all small businesses in Melbourne, this move was already expected due to a number of other issues: limited space, changing planning provisions of the local area, and the difficulty of working under strict heritage overlay protections among them,” the Facebook post said.
“Negotiations are underway for Darkzone’s reopening in an alternative Melbourne venue, and more information on this will be shared as details are finalised.”
Hundreds of fans have shared their memories of the “iconic” Melbourne venue.
“So sad to see this happen but I hope it means bigger and better things as a result,”
Cameron Osterlund said.
“Oh no. I spent so many hours of my youth there and only just got to introduce my kids to it,” Helen Cumming said.
Many people commenting on the post pleaded with the operators to reopen in the eastern suburbs.
Darkzone has been contacted for further comment.
