A 28-year-old man will be spending the Easter holiday behind bars after he was deemed an unacceptable risk to the community.

Cruz Klyn, of Rowville, fronted Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on March 31 where police argued he was liable to reoffend after he earlier tried to escape police.

Court documents show Klyn was arrested in Mulgrave on March 19 after he allegedly clipped a police car and nearly hit police members on foot in his haste to avoid being arrested.

The car was stolen from a Brighton home days earlier, the documents alleged.

Klyn’s defence lawyer told the court no police were hurt in the driving incident last month and Klyn hoped to get treatment for his drug addiction upon his release.

But Magistrate David Starvaggi said he was not satisfied Klyn would not reoffend if released.

Klyn could access adequate drug counselling behind bars, he said.

“His biggest hurdle is he fails to appear,” Mr Starvaggi said.

“Ultimately I am not satisfied that exceptional circumstances (for his release) have been made out … accordingly bail is refused.”
