A bus driver has been smashed with a glass bottle and assaulted by a group of teens while trying to stop a robbery in Melbourne’s east.

It’s alleged five teenagers were attempting to rob multiple passengers in Burwood when the bus driver stepped in about 7.30pm last Friday, March 27.

Police said the driver was struck with a glass bottle and knocked to the ground, where the assault continued.

The driver suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver has since been released.

The youths, four males and a female aged between 14-16, were arrested on Wednesday.

All have all been charged with affray, assault and other related offences.

Four of the teens have been remanded to face a children’s court, and one bailed to face court at a later date.
