A Whitehorse school has remained open and continued with classes despite confirmation of a Covid-19 case.
The Department of Education confirmed a positive case of the virus was identified at Box Hill High School on Friday, November 19.
Speculation emerged about the positive case in a Facebook group on November 23, with claims it involved a person involved in a Year 10 media studies class conducted in the morning.
One member of the group said they were “emailed ASAP” about the case and were also phoned by the school.
According to the department, the school was not required to close as it had undertaken appropriate cleaning, identified close contacts and notified those impacted.
The school’s principal, Losh Pillay, has been contacted for comment.
Whitehorse had recorded 13 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon on November 24, with 87 active cases in the community.
