The getaway driver to a shooting of the colourful ex-roommate of footy legend Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson asked police “what took so long” when they searched his home for drugs.

Sasha Dakic — who pleaded guilty last week — was sentenced in the County Court on Thursday to a slew of drugs and firearms charges as well as assisting the offender who shot Thomas Windsor in the stomach.

In the early hours of February 25, 2023 Dakic and an unknown offender entered a Clayton home and had an altercation with a person inside the home.

Windsor — who Bomber Thompson blamed when police found 480 ecstasy pills in their Port Melbourne home in 2018 — arrived at the home at 1.45am to help the resident.

Windsor, a convicted drug trafficker and former co-accused of the ex-Essendon coach, was shot in the stomach by the unknown offender in the kitchen while Dakic was present.

The court heard Windsor did not see who shot him.

Thomas Windsor spent nine days in hospital after he was shot.

The bullet was unable to be removed from his body.

Dakic and the unknown shooter immediately left the Clayton home, driving away in a white BMW.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to being the driver of this BMW, which was later seen in the area on CCTV footage obtained by police.

The court heard Dakic called an inmate at Port Phillip prison to brag about the shooting.

“Spike strikes again, haircuts strong one,” he told the inmate.

Police believe Spike is a nickname for Dakic and haircuts is a code word for shootings.

Days later, police descended on multiple properties associated with Dakic, including a Brooklyn storage unit and a Seabrook home unrelated to the shooting.

During the searches, a slew of drugs, ammunition and two broken firearms were found.

In the storage unit police located large quantities of methamphetamine, four vials of testosterone, and more than 2kg of iodine which is used to make meth and ammunition.

More drugs and ammunition were found along with two firearms in Dakic’s Seabrook home which he shared with his mother and grandmother.

More than $40,000 in cash was also found in a cavity in the garage.

Dakic was arrested on trafficking charges after these searches at a Windsor home on March 9.

He was found in a bedroom with a black satchel bag containing cash, phones, SIM cards, USBs, meth, cocaine and a loaded silver and black handgun with ammunition.

When police told him what they found in the bag Dakic replied “what took you so long?”

Dakic was supported in court by his mother, father and family friends.

Judge Simon Moglia said Dakic had the “capacity to learn and change” but his proposects of rehabilitation were “guarded.”

He sentenced Dakic to five years and three months in prison with a non-parole period of three years and three months.

Dakic has already served 406 days.
