A Burwood woman who chased a girl with a kitchen knife and whipped a boy with a coat hanger has faced court.

The woman pleaded guilty at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on June 8, to two counts of recklessly cause injury and one count of threat to inflict serious injury October 30, 2020.

According to court documents a 14-year-old girl was making dinner for the family, as she did most nights, when the woman accused the teen of taking too long.

Documents reveal the woman took the uncooked food from the oven and served it to the girl’s two brothers before yelling at the teen and calling her a “loser” and “useless”.

The woman has then picked up a wooden toy boat and beat the girl causing bruising and swollen red marks.

She then grabbed a kitchen knife and ran after the teen who struggled to open the locked front door before fleeing to her father’s house.

According to documents the woman also caused welts and bruising to a boy’s thigh and bum after an argument between two siblings.

The victim had argued with his brother and was taken to the woman’s bedroom, where he hid under her bed.

When she had finished in the shower the woman picked up a metal coat hanger and belted the boy, causing bruising and welts.

Court documents reveal a witness heard five “slapping” sounds and the woman yelling at the boy, “If you swear again I will cut your lips off”.

After both assaults the children’s father reported the injuries to police.

The woman has been bailed and will return to court for sentencing July 6.
